Salt is a natural mineral made up of white cube-shaped crystals composed of two elements, sodium and chlorine. When chemically united they form the compound sodium chloride or NaCl. 

Salt has played an important role in the everyday life of man for thousands of years, both flavoring and preserving his food. 

Records of the use of salt date from 5000 years. In  Egypt, the Egyptians used salt to preserve bodies, for about five thousand years, the Egyptians knew also salty foods and vegetables mixed with salt and sauce, and used salt to preserve fish. 

Scarce and precious, salt was sold by weight of gold, and was used on several occasions as money. Among the best known historical examples of this is that the Romans paid their soldiers with salt originating the word salary. 

The ancient Chinese used coins made of salt in the deliberation, and in many areas around theMediterranean, where salt tablets were used as currency in circulation 

Stated that Ibn Battuta visited in 1352 Tagara( African town) built of salt, including mosques. The Greek historian Pliny talked about the mines and rock salt and houses from that materials .
And some cities on the list was renamed from salt, such as Saltazburg 

Monopoly and the cost of taxes on the salt were the reason of famous rebellions. In France, the increase of a tax created in 1340, called Gabelle, contributed to start the French Revolution in 1789. 

 In 1933, the Dalai Lama was buried sitting up in a bed of salt
